Little dog meets big dog

I know you are waiting with baited breath for the story on how the big dog (our lab, Leia) met the little dog (Chi-Chi, the chihuahua, my brother's dog) at my house yesterday evening. To start, it wasn't pretty. Not that it was horrible but let's just say, having a large lab nose in your face is not what a tiny dog looks forward to.

At least there was a cage door between them. That didn't help Chi-Chi much though as she isn't a fan of the carrier. It just added to her angst. So her 'mama' took her out and, well, Leia still needed to be as up close and personal as she could be:

Oh, you say you can't see the little dog? Let's zoom in -

Yep, there she is - all 2.5 pounds of her. All 2.5 scared pounds of her. Not only was she in a strange house, with 10 other people but then there was this dog! A little too much for a puppy to handle.

We separated them for a bit by putting Leia in her cage but that just elicited a bark, which made Chi-Chi sprint very quickly as far away as her little legs could carry her. So Leia spent a little time in another room entirely so Chi-Chi could get more comfortable - and get some respite from the curious big dog. Not that Leia would ever hurt her - she loves other dogs - and she really just wanted to play but that's not very reassuring to someone the size of a large dog's poop.

After a little chill time, we brought them together again and while Chi-Chi never quite warmed up to the idea, she was at least able to tolerate being in the same room with Leia and even bolted past her a couple of times. She was very brave. Of course, Leia was asleep on the floor at the time so there wasn't much threat being posed at the time. But we'll say she was brave. She needs a boost in confidence. She is a chihuahua after all.

I am off to Chicago this weekend for CHA - I will share some pictures with you when I get back. The plan, while there, is to shop, eat, eat some more, maybe gamble, sleep, eat again and come home. There's got to be some great photo ops in that - stay tuned!
